Early Life
Semahat Sevim Arsel was born in Ankara, Turkey, on September 8, 1928. She is the eldest child of Vehbi Koç, the founder of Koç Holding, one of Turkey's largest industrial conglomerates. Growing up, she was exposed to the mechanisms of large-scale enterprise, setting the stage for her future career. Arsel graduated from the American College for Girls in Istanbul.
Rise to Success
Arsel's career began in 1964 when she joined the Koç Holding board of directors. Over the years, she has played a crucial role in the strategic management and expansion of the Koç Group. Her influence extends beyond the boardroom, as she also serves as the chair of Setur, the group's tourism company, and as president of the Vehbi Koç Foundation.
